About MyLifeCanada
Your trusted guide to building a real life in Canada — written by people who’ve done it.
Who We Are
MyLifeCanada was built by a team of newcomers, permanent residents, and long-time Canadians who understand firsthand what it means to start over in a new country. Our contributors have collectively lived across six Canadian provinces, navigated the immigration process, searched for apartments in unfamiliar cities, and figured out how to file Canadian taxes for the first time.
We’re not a government agency. We’re not a law firm. We’re people who’ve been exactly where you are — and we built the resource we wish had existed when we arrived.
Why MyLifeCanada Exists
Canada welcomes over 400,000 new permanent residents every year. For most of them, the same questions come up again and again:
- Which city is actually affordable to live in?
- How does the healthcare system work while I’m waiting for my health card?
- What does the Express Entry process really look like step by step?
- How much money do I actually need to rent an apartment in Toronto?
Official government websites answer the legal questions. Reddit answers with 50 conflicting opinions. MyLifeCanada gives you the honest, practical, up-to-date answer — backed by official sources and real experience.
What We Cover
Express Entry, PNP, work permits, study permits, PR applications, citizenship — explained in plain language.
Real, current numbers on rent, groceries, utilities, and transportation across every major Canadian city.
How Canada’s provincial health system works, what to do before your health card arrives, and what’s not covered.
Job market insights, credential recognition, resume tips for Canadian employers, and work culture guides.
Renting vs buying, average rents by city, how to find an apartment as a newcomer with no credit history.
Banking, SIN numbers, driver’s licenses, taxes, Canadian winters — the real practical stuff nobody tells you before you land.
Our Editorial Standards
Immigration rules, tax thresholds, and cost-of-living numbers change constantly. We take the following approach to keep our content accurate:
- Primary sources first. We verify all immigration information against official sources: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), provincial government websites, and Statistics Canada.
- Regular updates. We review key articles — especially immigration pathways and cost-of-living guides — regularly to reflect the latest fees, CRS cutoffs, and rental market data.
- Transparency about limitations. We are not immigration lawyers. When a question requires legal advice, we say so clearly and point you to official resources.
